ISO 26000 is a guidance document for Social Responsibility. It defines Social Responsibility as the responsibility of an organization to study the impact of its decisions and activities on society and the environment through transparent and ethical behavior. ISO 26000 contributes to the health and welfare of society through sustainable development. In other words, Social Responsibility is at a cross-section of environment, health and safety of its employees, ethical behavior and sustainable development. It is made up of the following seven Core Subjects. Each of these subjects has its own sub-parts.

Companies have to comply to various standards; not just ISO 26000. There are multiple codes and requirements for social responsibility and sustainability that organizations have to comply with.
