AIAG - Effective Problem Solving Webinar

Webinar Title: Effective Problem Solving

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Webinar.

In July 2012, AIAG published CQI-20 Effective Problem Solving Practioner Guide and in August 2012 the CQI-21 Problem Solving Guide - Leaders Role was published. Omnexs Senior Consultant, Gregory Gruska, participated on the writing committee and will conduct a webinar on these new problem solving guides.

AIAG conducted a study and determined that Leadership of OEM and suppliers indicated they dont have confidence in effective problem solving throughout supply chain. This was due to several causes, including:

  • Turnover/New Hires/New Job Responsibilities
    • i.e., lack of knowledge of the problem solving process
  • Leadership Support
    • Does leadership understand and are they promoting it?
  • Problem Complexity
    • What should be the system to trigger appropriate tools and processes and methods to identify root causes and solutions?
  • Short Term Focus of Information Generated
    • Lack of metrics to identify problem trends
  • Management Need to Understand the Problem Report

In response, Effective Problem Solving was revamped into two documents: the practitioners guide (CQI-20) and the leaders guide (CQI-21). This was accomplished by a work group of volunteer subject matter experts from the OEMs, Automotive Suppliers, and Omnex.

CIQ-20 provides a consensus of the problem solving approaches and concepts used by automotive OEMs and the supply chain. It presents a problem solving methodology and supporting organizational structure to improve the consistency of problem solving results in all segments and at all levels of the industry.

This webinar will walk through the Effective Problem Solving process and will identify how it relates to common problem solving approaches by using a case study. There will be a special focus on the new process elements such as the use of FMEAs as an integral part of the problem solving process and the inclusion of Escape, Occurrence, and Systemic root causes. The checklists included in CQI-20 will also be discussed. The role of leadership (as discussed in CQI-21) in establishing the culture and structure necessary for effective problem solving and the roles in the problem solving process will also be included.
