ISO/TS 16949:2002 Case Study for Semiconductor Company B

Technologies:

Project:

Develop and Implement an ISO/TS 16949:2002 QMS.

Omnex provided training, development and implementation consulting services for a large Semiconductor company in an ISO/TS 16949:2002 implementation project involving 52 facilities world wide. These facilities include Design Centers, Chip Wafer Fabricating plants, Assembly and Test facilities, and top management groups. The corporate objectives in this endeavor included achieving an excellence model that would significantly exceed compliance.

For this project Omnex created an implementation process for the company scoped from the initial assessment to the completion of the registration process.

The benefits and improvements sought by the Semiconductor company in this project included effective use of FMEA/Control plans to improve processes and achieve significant yield improvements in Fabrication and Assembly, use of MSA and improvement in gauging and testing equipment, alignment of customer expectations, strategy and deployment of objectives and continual improvement; and, lastly, creating processes that would link customers, corporate, design, and manufacturing with all of the attendant benefits to be achieved.

Omnex initiated projects in four groups comprising some 14 facilities in the U.S. and India. Omnex created customized training in APQP, with particular focus on FMEA, Control plans, MSA and PPAP, in support of the development of the company's product development, launch, production and continual improvement process.

About ISO/TS 16949:2002 - The International Quality System Standard for Automotive Suppliers
ISO/TS 16949:2002 specified the quality system requirements for the design / development, production, and (where relevant) installation and servicing of automotive related products. The ISO/TS 16949:2002 1st Edition released in 1999, was based on ISO 9001:1994. To emphasize continuous improvement in the supplier base, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) later revised the ISO/TS 16949:1999 requirements to align with the ISO 9001:2000 framework. more...
