ISO/TS 16949:2002 Case Study for Semiconductor Company A

Technologies:

Design, Manufacture, Assembly and Test of Integrated Circuits for automotive electronic systems.

Project:

Develop and Implement ISO/TS 16949:2002 QMS Quality Management System.

Omnex provided training, development, implementation and internal auditing services in an ISO/TS 16949:2002 Quality Management System implementation involving 12 Strategic Business Units, 3 chip wafer fabricating plants, and 3 Assembly and Test facilities. The project happened over a year and half.

The project involved improving a number of major management system elements, including:

  • Increased top management participation and involvement in ISO/TS 16949:2002 and in continual improvement.
  • Establishment of clear linkages between the business balanced scorecard, customer expectations, and continual improvement.
  • Improving business systems and new product development processes in some new business lines.
  • Improvement in Fabrication yield and establishment of continual improvement focus.
  • System focus on value added, not just corrective and preventive actions. There turned out, at all levels of management and operations, to be an overall expectation of "value added" and additional gains from the current and past activities.

About ISO/TS 16949:2002 - The International Quality System Standard for Automotive Suppliers
ISO/TS 16949:2002 specified the quality system requirements for the design / development, production, and (where relevant) installation and servicing of automotive related products. The ISO/TS 16949:2002 1st Edition released in 1999, was based on ISO 9001:1994. To emphasize continuous improvement in the supplier base, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) later revised the ISO/TS 16949:1999 requirements to align with the ISO 9001:2000 framework. more...
