Why did you choose the Omnex Systems Suite?

Hitachi Cable Indiana is a previous user of AQuA software and we have been quite satisfied with this Omnex product. We were looking for additional software to streamline the administration of our quality system, so the Omnex suite of products was an obvious place to start our search

How do you like the software?

We found the software to be very user friendly, with no so-called "bugs" in the software. The software required very little additional programming to meet our company's specific requirements. Basically, the software can be loaded "off the shelf" and it becomes functional immediately.

What is your overall quality strategy?

HCI is QS-9000-certified and soon will be ISO 14001-certified. We have integrated the ISO 14001 documentation system into our existing QS 9000 documentation system. We intend to operate these management systems in as efficient a manner as possible. One means of doing this is to eliminate as much paperwork as possible. Document Pro is making it possible for us to accomplish this objective.

HCI is working with all of the other Hitachi Cable companies that are located worldwide to establish a Worldwide Quality System. The goal of this system is to standardize the quality systems at each Hitachi Cable Company and to allow communications between companies concerning quality matters using the Internet. We are looking for the capability of sharing information easily between companies.

HCI management has been seeking efficient means of obtaining critical performance measurements of each operating department. The BOSS software provides the platform for the efficient reporting and monitoring of the critical measurements.

How does the suite fulfill the objectives of that strategy?

Document Pro and Audit Pro are both web-based software packages. Our desire to use the Internet for global communications will make it much easier to achieve our inter-company goals. We envision an audit program that will be used by all of the satellite companies at one time.

What kind of savings do you expect?

When we implemented AQuA, we realized an annual savings of approximately $225,000 in time that would have been spent in developing new flow charts, PFMEAs and Control Plans for all of our new products. As we are still in the process of completely implementing Document Pro, Audit Pro, and BOSS, it is hard to predict savings, but our initial estimates of the savings would be close to what we realized with Aqua.
