Omnex China working with AIAG to Improve China's Auto Suppliers for Growing Domestic and International Market

December 1, 2006 - Omnex China has joined a team of Automotive Supplier Gap Analysis experts to determine improvement opportunities (including Lean & Six Sigma) for Chinese automotive suppliers.

The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) has put together a team of experts addressing issues of improving Gap Analysis and auto supplier capabilities in the following areas:

• Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma
• Material Management
• EDI
• Supplier Assessment
• Quality System

Omnex's General Manager, Michael Xu; and VP of Omnex China, Edward Tao participated in the team and have conducted Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma assessment for Chongqing-area suppliers in tandem with the work of the AIAG team.

The first pilot program was conducted in Chongqing from 11/13 to 11/24/06 with Six Key Suppliers recommended by UNIDO - SPX CQ, (United Nations Industrial Development Organization - Subcontracting Partnership Exchange of Chongqing). Omnex teamed with Supplier Development Specialists from OEMs Ford & DCX to review the enterprise capabilities and identify gaps for future improvement opportunities.

The gap analysis, initiated by AIAG, is strongly endorsed and supported by Chongqing City Government and is designed to improve Sino-U.S. automotive industry communication and facilitate cooperation between the Chongqing and U.S. automotive communities. The expert team will determine the gap between what auto parts enterprises are capable of delivering and the needs of international Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The AIAG--a globally-recognized, independent organization--will oversee the program to ensure that the needs of all participants are understood.

Omnex China, operating in Shanghai, has been a key part of AIAG's roll-out of Lean and Six Sigma training in the region. The office has aided in worldwide quality implementations to North American based automakers and their suppliers.
