
Breakaway Lean Tools Overview
Workshop Content
This two-day workshop offers instruction and practice in application of the tools
and methodologies used in striving for perfection. This workshop offers instruction
and guided practice for measuring and improving overall equipment effectiveness
(OEE). Participants will learn how to improve OEE by leading project teams to implement
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to reduce downtime due to breakdowns and minor
stoppages. Participants will also learn how to reduce the time lost due to setups
and changeovers through application of SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die). This
workshop provides instruction and guided practice in the application of Mistake
Proofing devices to equipment downtime. Participants will determine the cost savings
and increased productive capacity resulting from improved OEE through the application
of TPM, SMED and Mistake Proofing.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is intended for leaders responsible for improving quality and productivity
in manufacturing operations.
Prerequisites
Participants are expected to have completed Value Stream Mapping, and to have developed
current and future state maps.
Workshop Materials
Each participant will receive a manual with all workshop materials.
Workshop Goals
This workshop will develop your ability to measure and improve OEE. This workshop
will develop your ability to lead project teams to achieve quick changeovers through
application of SMED methodology. This workshop will develop your knowledge and skills
for planning and implementing a system of Total Productive Maintenance. This workshop
will also develop your ability to plan and deploy Mistake Proofing to achieve Zero
Defects Production.

- The Six Big Losses that Effect OEE
- Introduction to TPM
- Developing and deploying TPM
Day 2
- Introduction to SMED for Quick Changeovers
- Developing and Deploying Quick Changeover Methods
- Introduction to Zero Defects Production
- Overview of Poka-yoke devices and application exercises
- Practice in developing and deploying Mistake Proofing (Poka-yoke) systems.
- Management Reports
