
Application of Breakaway Lean Tools - Quick Changeovers (SMED)
Workshop Content
This one-day fast-paced course provides training in the application of Quick Changeovers
to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). This course will provide instruction
in the application of Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) for streamlining equipment
changeover processes. A changeover case study is used as an instructional tool to
apply quick changeover methodologies. Participants will also determine the potential
cost savings and increased available capacity resulting from improved OEE.
Who Should Attend
This course is intended for Lean Senseis, Continual Improvement Leaders and Process
Engineers responsible for planning, organizing and managing continuous improvement
of manufacturing and assembly processes.
Prerequisites
Some experience implementing Lean techniques is helpful and critical thinking is
required.
Workshop Materials
Each participant will receive a Quick Changeovers Manual with all workshop materials
included.

- Develop the applicable tools
- Develop the knowledge and ability to measure and manage OEE
- Develop the ability to lead project teams to achieve quick changeovers through application
of SMED methodology
- Identify and quantify both cost savings and manufacturing flexibility from reduced
changeover times
