The Omnex Integrated Performance Management Approach
The Omnex Integrated Performance Management Approach is a systematic approach to performance management focusing on six fundamental management initiatives.
The Omnex Integrated Performance Management Approach will transform your enterprise from a "good company" into a world-class organization that deploys and uses ‘best in class" processes to achieve industry-leading results. The six initiatives can be implemented in parallel or serial steps depending on your needs, timetables and the maturity of your processes and systems. Complete transformation often takes months, in some cases even years; however the results can be massive and demonstrable. You will be able to achieve measurable improvements in revenue, quality, and costs at various milestones throughout the journey.
The Omnex Integrated Performance Management Approach is not a quick fix—it requires top management’s dedication and conviction. To attain sustainable achievements the client’s top management must be prepared for significant organizational change.
Management Systems
Good organizations possess vision. What separates the "best" from the "good" is how well the management team transforms its vision into reality. How are customer expectations captured, digested, and translated into an executable strategy with well-defined objectives? How does the organization ensure that the entire enterprise understands and executes those objectives? An organization that cannot answer these basic questions and work together on an ongoing basis, will never achieve its full potential. When fully implemented, the Omnex Management System Approach aligns corporate vision and objectives with personal objectives, allowing management to quickly and regularly tune the organization so it can reach the highest levels of performance.
The first step in the Management System initiative is to develop a strategy that aligns your corporate mission and vision with the needs and expectations of your customers (and other parties that have a strategic impact on the organization) to create your organization’s global objectives. Once this is done, Omnex provides its specially designed process methodology and tools (such as business balanced score cards, BMS control plans, Quality Operating System review, and global benchmarking tools) so you can design and implement processes to allow you to meet these global objectives.
During this phase management is taught how to determine and measure performance metrics necessary to ensure continued progress toward your goals. This exercise is then repeated to allow for the creation of measurable objectives at the divisional, regional, site, and personal levels. Finally, in the Management System initiative, all of these objectives are incorporated into a unique human resources appraisal system that ensure that the entire enterprise is always moving in the same direction no matter how far-flung the territory.
Customer Relationship Management
After the organization’s mission, values and objectives have been aligned with customer expectations, a sustainable business system is required that enables continual evaluation of the evolving expectations and requirements of customers and other interested parties to support timely adjustment of your objectives so that you are always managing to those expectations.
In the Omnex Customer Relationship initiative, we help in understanding your perceived strengths and weaknesses from the customer’s perspective. We show you how to improve and how to better manage your customer interactions. We involve the organization in a series of unique exercises that determine what processes are affected by the customer expectations, how these processes are performing, and what improvements are key to creating a sustainable customer relationship management effort. When this phase is completed, you will have the skills and processes necessary to become and remain a truly customer-centric organization.
Design Excellence
For manufacturing companies, both the greatest risks and greatest potential for rewards involve the development and launch of new products. How many companies have lost millions of dollars every time they have launched a new product? In the Design Excellence initiative, we ensure that your launches are consistently successful. We work with you to analyze your current product design processes to determine your product design lead-time, how you develop new product ideas, how you innovate, how you commercialize new products, and how you determine and achieve overall Design Policies and Objectives. This provides a snapshot of your current design processes and helps us determine if you are you a leader or a follower. Once your current state is determined, we map out a program that will help make your product design efforts the most advanced in the world.
The first step in The Omnex Design Excellence initiative involves aligning design policies and objectives with overall business strategy. This enables you to utilize your management system to track how these policies and objectives are deployed within the organization. We then work with you to examine your approach to project management and setting objectives for each new product launch. What program management tools are being used to coordinate a launch that involves multiple design and manufacturing teams? Will the product meet the overall design goals? Is the launch executed within the budgeted costs?
In the Omnex Design Excellence initiative, the entire design and development process is studied and dissected for contributors/inhibitors to overall success. The Omnex Design Excellence initiative studies the overall design process, the integration of product and process technology, simultaneous engineering, innovation, and the rapidity of the process. We show you how to incorporate DFM and DFA in design rules. Effective project management and customer satisfaction methods are deployed to identify the success and failure factors in a design organization so you can continually assess and improve. Developing new products on time, on budget, with first pass success, a ppm level of six sigma, and overall customer satisfaction is the goal of the Omnex design excellence process. Omnex believes effective use of this process will result in major reductions in design costs while significantly increasing design throughput and engineering productivity. The Omnex Design Excellence initiative will provide both the tools and the system to achieve remarkably predictable success in your organization’s product launches.
Operational Excellence
Manufacturing operations transform ideas developed in the design phase into reality. In many cases, manufacturing operations are developed only after years of R & D and design work. When these latter activities occur independently of manufacturing process development, a slip-up here and an "oops" there can waste millions of dollars in re-work costs, customer dissatisfaction and lost revenue. Manufacturing operations for a given product must provide the capability to deliver the product to your customers quickly, efficiently and cheaply. Customer fulfillment is achieved only when the delivered product satisfies the customer. Low cost, high quality, and quick delivery of the product are basic expectations of the customer.
In the Omnex Operational Excellence initiative, you become able to streamline your manufacturing processes. Proven methods are employed to transform apparent manufacturing chaos into synchronized performance with minimal waste, high quality, and little–to-no inventory. Once you have completed this initiative, double digit cost reductions in floor space, inventory, manpower, lead-time and process waste are quite likely. Overall, costs will go down and throughput will improve in a lean, capable organization. Our experienced Lean/Six Sigma professionals use an array of tools including value-stream mapping, set-up reduction, 5-S, Kanban, Poka Yoke, and total productive maintenance to improve your manufacturing processes and to reduce your costs by thousands, even millions of dollars each year.
Business Excellence
When organizations reach a level of maturity approaching world-class performance, the Omnex Business Excellence initiative is introduced. In this initiative we help you focus the organization on achieving standards of Business Excellence such as the Malcolm Baldridge Award, the European Quality Award, the Shingo Award, Deming Prize or other national awards. We introduce you to an internal process of self-assessment to the Business Excellence standards. Resulting improvement actions allow you to take the organization the final steps to achieve the highest levels of competitive and commercial capability and success.
If winning one of these awards is your goal, it will require outstanding, benchmark results in most categories of performance. Many of our clients choose to go through the effort because they find that the pursuit of an award is often the catalyst that galvanizes the entire organization into self-analysis and rapid improvement.
Knowledge Management
Without an ongoing initiative to improve your knowledge management, the organization will have a difficult time sustaining and continuing the trend in organizational improvements that has been achieved using the rest of the Omnex Integrated Performance Management Approach. The Knowledge Management initiative should be implemented sequentially, in parallel with your efforts in the initiatives that comprise the rest of the approach.
The key to knowledge management is the identification, organization and presentation of documentation (information) that embodies the collective knowledge of the organization’s management of customer, product, and operations. Without ready access to the most up-to-date organizational knowledge, you can not be assured that the entire organization is operating at peak efficiency. In the Knowledge Management initiative, Omnex will work with you to identify and manage the documents; assist you in setting up your document management and control processes; and assist you in creating a knowledge management system that will not only greatly improve your business but will also comply with ISO 9000, ISO 14001:2004, OSHAS 18001, and/or other relevant standards.
How Do I Get Started?
The first step involves an Omnex visit to conduct our Performance Excellence Assessment. The assessment will include interviews with top management, review of performance data, customer data, product performance data, process performance, and a documentation assessment. We will visit your corporate headquarters, design centers, manufacturing, sales and distribution locations. After the assessment is completed, a presentation will be developed that includes findings in the areas of Management Systems, Customer Relationship Management, Design Excellence, Operational Excellence, Business Excellence, and Knowledge Management, as well as our overall conclusions and recommendations. Following the assessment, we will work with a top management team to finalize the recommendations and translate them into actions. The actions are then prioritized so that they can be assigned to senior managers who will then work with us to implement them and to begin your journey towards true Performance Excellence.
